ACADEMIC LEADER
This year the students of St Thomas' have worked hard and persevered in their studies at all levels. No doubt this comes from the continued support of great staff and resources we have here. It was awesome to see all the Year 13s involved in peer tutoring this year and I know that the younger students are very grateful for your help.
As Academic Leader I was trusted to fill Thomas Davies' massive shoes, and with this in mind I continued the tradition of the Study Tips that he began in 2008. With exams less than 20 days away, I hope some of these simple study tips will guide you through these trying times.
- 1) Never be scared to ask a question, the only stupid question is the one not asked. If you don't believe me ask Socrates, who once said 'The life which is unexamined is not worth living'.
- 2) Write with conviction. Any man can write words and recite facts, but to set yourself apart you have to write in a way that will force people to think, because this gives you the power to create change.
- 3) Keep an open mind towards your career goals and ambitions. I can tell you from my own experience they can change many times during your school life.
- 4) Try to stay healthy. I once saw on an advert that if you free the mind the body will follow, and for exams it's important to remember the basics, like getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water and eating well on the day.
For those of you who see passing the exams as something that just isn't going to happen consider the words of John Maxwell, who once said;
'Impossible is just a big word thrown round by small men who find it easier to live in a world they have been given than explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing'.
