The far field is where our Maori students have completed preparations for this year's hangi. A big group of boys and parents peeled food and enjoyed a meal together and then at 6.30am started their huge fire roaring in the pit. By 9am the parcelled up food were laid and then all wait and anticipate the delicious meal at 3pm when the hangi is raised. It is pleasing to see the boys working hard and together, but also having fun as they prepare to share the experience of a hangi with the school community. Mary and Jan in the office have also been really delighted that the large collection of shovels has moved from the office to the far field! Ms Ngaire Hunt, our teacher with responsibility for Maori students, and Michael Bendall, our Maori/Pasifika coordinator, have done a wonderful job in coordinating this event. Next week we celebrate the achievement and culture of Pasifika students during the combined Christchurch Secondary Schools Pasifika Week.

ANNUAL HANGI
PASIFIKA
The Principal attended a Pasifika breakfast with Mr Steve Hart, Deputy Principal (Pastoral Care), Peri Petelo, our teacher with responsibility for Pasifika students and two students (Kolio Vailuu and Jordan Koloamatangi).
Polyfest happened at the Town Hall and the evening is not to be missed. The event is a wonderful celebration of Pasifika performance, music and dance. We have a large performance group taking part and 2009 saw them appear for the first time in their new College lava lavas, complete with school crest.
We are fortunate to have a vibrant multi cultural community within our school and we celebrate the richness and diversity this brings to all of us.
