JAMES AGNEW NAMED AS TOP PUPIL James Agnew has out-managed thousands of pupils across New Zealand. James is the first recipient of the New Zealand Chartered Accountants (NZICA) Young Managing Director of the Year Award. James is part of our YES Team Advanced Clean Energies who are in Wellington tonight and are in the running for a national award.
BUILDING HAS STARTED The builders have arrived ... fences have gone up .... paint marks the ground where the new building will be .... noise of saws and hammers has begun ... the canteen is being dismantled ... and all the while our juniors find new spots to play and our seniors sit NCEA exams. NCEA STARTS English level two started off the first of the larger National examinations Thursday the 10th. Our boys were ready and willing to do their best. Short week this week and a great date tomorrow with 11/11/11.
STC 50 YEARS ON The last week of term three saw a wonderful occasion ... that being the School's 50th reunion. Around three hundred people were present and revelled in: sports, fire dances, haka, tours, hangi, dancing, food, drink, rugby and spiritual celebrations. SPORTS AWARDS 11 October saw another very successful Sports Awards Dinner. Sue Riley - "the mother of STC sport" invited the engaging guest speaker Julie Seymour. Julie described her career that started in her backyard and ended up on the world stage. Her simple message was to train harder than everyone else to achieve an edge and realise success.
PFA Art Auction Over 30 artworks were auctioned by Owen Patterson (Ray White Auctioneer of the year 2011). Owen's professionalism and sense of humour made the evening a great night out. We raised $7915 and the money raised is for the College to buy technical and scientific equipment. Thanks to all the artists who created each piece, everyone who came along, especially the generous bidders, the students who helped set up the hall and worked on the night, Stephen Hardman of the Twisted Hop, Tony Lemmens, Sockburn Joinery Limited, Hancocks wine suppliers and Owen Patterson, Ray White auctioneer
Mclintock House wins Athletics Sports. McLintock House romped in to win the 2011 Athletics day. It was great to see the students laughing, competing, challenging each other and dressing up in the colours of their house. go green! Sport is starting to pick up after Christchurch shakes a bit ... Rugby STC 10 aside players scored nine trys over Burnside last week. Then they competed against Shirley Boys at Burnside Park and also won. We wish all the best to the rowers who are on their way to the Maadi Cup in Hamiliton and our volleyball team off to Palmerston North for the NZ National competition. In summary it is so great to be back on the field and playing sport. Japanese School donates to St Thomas Mrs O'Brien accepted an earthquake donation in March from Mr Kenbun Okazaki, the vice Principal from Shiga Gakuen High School. An amazing sentiment; considering the tense and extremely sad situation in Japan at present.
Marlow wins the swimming sports St Thomas of Canterbury College got the weather right for a blistering day at the pool. Rice House led all day and were just pipped at the post by Marlow when all points were counted. Academic Success celebrated at School Assembly Today's assembly was a huge pleasure to be at to see the huge number of our men achieving at the top levels of NCEA. Merit and Excellence Endorsements at every level being obtained.
