Marlow House Captain.
Ha!! It was just meant to be - 2009 was OUR YEAR!! We kicked off the year completely dominating swimming sports thanks to the quantity of our boys participating and our young Michael Phelps's.
Athletics day came next and by the end of the day we got 3rd with Joyce House winning but who cares! They had to win something after seeing Mena turn up in a red dress. . . . we had to feel sorry for them.
Cross country was our next goal after our disappointing efforts at athletics and the finish line was never too far for our senior boys and as expected we won. This was an outstanding effort right there!!
Tug of war was next and our seniors took it out, as usual, our juniors did not win but their effort and commitment was up to scratch. The big day arrived - STC DAY!! We came second as we sang "follow MARLOW" and Joyce came first, but who cares!! Singing is for girls anyway. The haka was right after the singing and we produced a very outstanding mongrel haka that all our boys were proud of but it came down to a haka-off which we lost. Thanks to everyone who voted for Joyce because they were sick of watching us win the haka every year.
How did MARLOW win this year you might ask? It was all about our house pride and consistency in getting first or second in pretty much all our events. The RECESSION seemed to affect all the other houses, especially Rice as they hardly turned up this year.
A special THANK YOU to Miss Burrough and Mr. McKendry for their help and thanks to all the MARLOW boys ... farewell and thanks for having me. It was a pleasure being the most un-liked house captain by other houses

Marlow Dean's Report
What a starling year it has been! Congratulations to all students who swam, ran, stood on fence posts, sang, challenged themselves and others, competed in haka after haka, and ate as many weetbix as possible, to help claim the points needed to take out the House Competition this year. Consistency across all competitions was the key. Above all the yellow house spirit was extremely high and the love for Marlow shone through.
Sadly we had to say our farewells to Mr McKendry who was our House coordinator for the first half of the year. He established a positive team culture where winning was high on the priority list. He will be back.....
We have many students in our house who excel in their own special arena. Some of these are listed below:
- Tana Luke - Placed first in the Canterbury Secondary Manu Korero Competition
Fourth at the National Manu Korero Competition
- Alastair Hoogenboezem - Second in the National Superbike Championships
- David Correos - Weightlifting, Gold Secondary School Champs U85Kg
- Reagan Bush - Boxing - Gold in Junior U63kg NZ Nationals
- Sam Mackwell - Service Award for Marlow. Sam is always willing to help set up sounds and projectors.
- Junior Graduation -
Consistently high all year:
Noteable improvements during the year:
A special thank you must go to Mark Guindy whose passion and commitment was evident in every activity he undertook. Well done to those Marlow gentlemen who are leaving, and to those returning, your talent and enthusiasm will hold the house in good stead for many years to come.
