Simon Consedine (College Captain in 1998) will study for a Master of Laws degree specialising in Energy Law at Colombia University in New York. With fees of $45,000 US a year for study there was a distinct murmur through the crowd. Simon graduated with an LLB (Hons) in 2003 and a BA (Hons) in 2004 from the University of Canterbury, and has since worked for Bell Gully.
He stated that the school was sufficiently small and also sufficiently big. He told the boys that they should use St Thomas' to their advantage as it was very easy to be a "big fish in a small pond" and that the school can magnify your talents. Students were advised not to fritter away their time at STC and be aware that producing "young gentlemen" was the school's aim.
