2008 has been a very impressive year for Sport at St Thomas of Canterbury College. Sport is developing fantastically at the College and much progress has been made in recent years aligned with our ever increasing roll. Even though we are a small school, we are still capable of producing fine sportsman, who continue to compete at the regional, national and even international level. Our sports team are competing well against other bigger schools, which is gratifying to see and participation rates in school sport continue to remain high.
Every 15 years our school has the opportunity to host the Canterbury Athletics Champs and in 2008 it was our turn.
The First XI had a fantastic win in their annual clash against the Willows where we won the 49ers Cup which is presented for the most meritorious performance by any team that competes at The Willows during the season.
Roncalli from Timaru visited St Thomas' to compete against us in a number of winter codes.
The Rowers had a very successful year making a huge number of 'A' finals at the South Island Club Championships and two gold medals in the U19 quad and the U16 fours.
The Sportsman of the Year with his involvement in Short Track Speed Skating was Bradley Tuhi.
In the Canterbury Secondary Schools Swimming Champs we had another successful year for our swimmers.
Volleyball has been the growth sport this year and a sport where we have achieved outstanding results.
