The Steven Hart Fund
In September 2011, Steven Hart and his family received news that no one ever wants to hear. Steve was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of appendix cancer, which without proper treatment is life threatening. Since August, Steve has endured two lots of surgery including removal of half his bowel and appendix where the cancer existed. Because his appendix had perforated, it is possible that the cancer has spread which will require on-going chemotherapy with future uncertainty. With possible cures outside the public system, Steve and his wife Sam have been investigating the potential for HIPEC (Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy), a procedure involving surgically removing cancerous tumors from the abdominal cavity, then bathing the cavity with hot chemotherapy to kill any remaining cancer cells. There is substantial clinical evidence that HIPEC is the preferred treatment for patients with mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix (Steve’s condition). But this treatment does not come cheap and will be in the vicinity of $30,000-$80,000 Australian dollars.
The Steven Hart Fund has been set up so the Hart family know that they have a full support network of people behind them that can contribute in some way. Any funds raised or donated will be used to assist Steve with the most effective method of treatment available. Steve's progress will be updated on a dedicated page on the website of St Thomas’ where he works (www.stc.school.nz/steven-hart-fund). This page will outline up-to-date information on Steve’s progress and planned fundraising events.
Steve is a committed father to his four beautiful children and a loving husband to his wife Samantha. We are all hoping, praying and determined to get Steve cured. With your support we believe it is possible.
