Pastoral Care » WINNING HOUSE 2011
This year my goal was to wake the mighty Rice up from the dead.
At the beginning of the year as usual swimming sports and athletics, but this year was slightly different. Rice had their heads switched on when it was important which was "on the day". Rice was present on the podium for many of the events throughout all age groups in both swimming and athletics. Unfortunately both these events only produced two second places and so McClintock led until they lost their lead during the celebrations of St Thomas day. Rice winning the singing competition, with a mix up of the Lion King, Here Comes the Boom and Uncle Cracker... which the judges loved was enough to put us in a well-deserved lead.
There were a few 'bi-weekly' challenges throughout the year: ice block eating, drinking fizzy through straws and a very controversial 'how many people can you get on a gym horse' challenge which was held during an assembly.
Another large event was added to the calendar this year, and I took full advantage of it. For the period of one week each house was to collect as many food cans as possible (to be donated to the CHCH city mission) there was no limit on the number of cans and for each and every can a house donated their house was awarded one point. This gave me the chance to really try to put us safely in a lead that would hold till the end. Thanks to true Rice house spirit and the generosity of true St Thomas men, Rice ended up on the final day of the week with 384 cans the closest house only had 82
Rice the Champions of 2011 thanks to a huge team of year thirteen boys that gave it everything and to the whole house for a top effort.
